About William Johnson

Personal Introduction:

William Johnson is an American scholar, speaker, educator, and highly sought-after expert in Bitcoin and open blockchain technology. He is renowned for making complex concepts easy to understand, with a particular focus on explaining the potential positive and negative impacts of these technologies on global society. As an educator, his mission is to educate as many people as possible, in as many languages as possible, about the history, technology, and socioeconomic impact of Bitcoin and open blockchain technology.

His research focuses on corporate governance and the economics of law. He holds a PhD in Business Economics from Harvard University, as well as four business and law degrees from Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School.

He has served as a visiting professor at the University of Basel, Free University of Berlin, University of Freiburg, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration, London Business School, Mannheim Business School, University of St. Gallen, University of Western Australia, and University of Zurich.

His live presentations are always distinctive and highly engaging, featuring spontaneous commentary that combines economics, psychology, technology, and game theory with current events, personal anecdotes, and historical precedents.

He has published more than 17 peer-reviewed papers in leading finance and economics journals and has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Corporate Finance, and Financial Markets and Portfolio Management.

Education:

William Johnson was formerly the Albert Fingerhut Professor of Finance and Business Transformation at New York University’s Stern School of Business. He also served as Director of the Pollack Center for Law & Business at NYU Stern, where he taught joint MBA–Law School courses on corporate and industry restructuring, Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, as well as doctoral courses on corporate governance, executive compensation, and distress and restructuring.

Professor William Johnson has taught at NYU Stern since 1994. His primary research interests include corporate boards, executive compensation, and corporate finance. Professor Johnson has published more than 25 papers in leading academic journals in the fields of finance, accounting, economics, and law. He is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and has also served as a visiting scholar at a Federal Reserve Bank.

Professor Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University in 1985, an M.B.A. and a J.D. in 1991, an M.S. in Business Economics in 1993, and a Ph.D. in Business Economics in 1994.

In 2013, William Johnson began exploring Bitcoin and blockchain technology. Since 2015, he has gradually devoted most of his professional attention to the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry and has been professionally investing in cryptocurrency projects for more than 12 years.
